WATCH: VICIOUS – STRANGE BONES

Blackpool’s STRANGE BONES release their explosive video for latest single VICIOUS. Blurring the lines between punk and electronic music, the track features on forthcoming EP BLITZ PT 1, which drops 5th July. More EPs will follow throughout the year.

Vicious is a reaction to the illusion of control, in a hyper-normal world”, vocalist Bobby explains, “It’s a brutal showcase of what the band is capable of. A demonstration of our vast influences, marking a turning point in the band’s evolution. Strange Bones was never meant to be a punk band or a rock band, the idea was to constantly evolve, with an underlying sonic signature. Bringing in elements of different genres is something we have always done, more subtly up until now. The song takes no prisoners, and reveals Strange Bones to the world as genre shape shifters”

Strange Bones consist of the Bentham brothers – Bobby (vocals), Jack (guitars) and Will (bass) – and lifelong friend Stuart Newburn (drums). They collectively grew up on an awe-inspiring diet of punk rock, as their parents were one of the first to film punk gigs to VHS tapes under the name Jettisoundz/Visionary (distributed by Rough Trade, and eventually bought out by Cherry Red records).

Hypnotised by performances from the likes of Black Flag, UK Subs and Hawkwind, the sense of community combined with blistering energy is something Strange Bones endeavour to recreate at their notoriously ferocious live shows. Highlights include support to Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, Yonaka and Cabbage, alongside Reading and Leeds, Isle Of Wight, Download, TRNSMT and 2000 Trees. Strange Bones were also shortlisted for Best Live Act at the 2018 Unsigned Music Awards.

Releasing their We The Rats EP in 2018, Strange Bones have received plaudits from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, Mistajam and Dan P Carter, alongside BBC Introducing, Beats1, XFM, Kerrang Radio, Kerrang Magazine, Clash and DIY.

Forthcoming EP Blitz Pt 1 was recorded and produced in Strange Bones own studio, and mixed by Thomas Mitchener (Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes). It builds on their punk backbone, spitting venom through every word and radiating high octane energy, whilst drawing on a plethora of influences from other genres and a drive to push boundaries. Bobby explains, “Blitz is a commentary of 21st century life. Part 1 looks at the hyper-normalisation of modern society, our reliance on self medication and self-built technological utopias in a world of accelerated modernity. The artwork is a depiction of the town that time forgot, life and death in Blackpool UK

Armed with a series of EPs that pack one hell of a punch, and an unquenchable thirst for live shows, STRANGE BONES are ready to shake things up. “We are not afraid of creating and releasing something outside of the box, there is no room for compromise and there will be no prisoners. Bands love to play it safe, with their music and their live shows”, smiles Bobby, “We refuse to be tamed.”
